Port Charlotte's pool stock is among the oldest in Southwest Florida. General Development Corporation's original master-planned community created thousands of residential lots, most with pools, in the 1970s through 1990s. These pools are now 25–50 years old, and the original plaster, concrete decks, and equipment have reached or passed the end of their functional lifespan in many cases.
Plaster surfaces typically last 10–20 years depending on water chemistry management. A rough, staining, or delaminating plaster surface can't be adequately cleaned and should be resurfaced. Original concrete pool decks from this era are almost universally cracked — thermal cycling, tree root intrusion, and Florida's sandy soil movement have taken their toll. Travertine paver decks installed over or in place of the original concrete are dramatically more durable and are the dominant deck upgrade choice throughout Port Charlotte's established neighborhoods.

Common Questions
Pool resurfacing in Port Charlotte typically costs $4,500–$12,000+ depending on pool size, existing surface condition, and finish material selected (plaster, pebble finish, or quartz aggregate). Call 941.258.7529 for a free renovation assessment and estimate.
Pool resurfacing typically takes 3–5 days for the surface work itself, followed by 7–14 days of startup chemistry management before the pool is swim-ready. The exact timeline depends on pool size and the extent of surface preparation required.
Travertine pavers are significantly better for Florida pools for several reasons: travertine stays cooler underfoot than concrete (important on hot Florida days), pavers flex with soil movement rather than cracking as monolithic concrete does, and the natural porous surface of travertine provides better grip when wet. Travertine decks also maintain their appearance much longer than concrete without sealing, staining, or cracking.
It depends on the specific condition of the surface, equipment, and plumbing. If the plaster is rough and staining persistently, the deck has significant cracking, or equipment requires repeated repairs, a renovation assessment makes sense. We provide honest, no-pressure renovation assessments — call 941.258.7529.
