What drives the cost of resurfacing a pool?

  1. Finish material. The biggest single factor. Pebble and premium quartz cost more than standard plaster.
  2. Pool size and shape. More surface area, steps, benches and spas mean more material and labor.
  3. Condition of the old surface. Delaminated or hollow plaster needs more prep before the new finish can bond.
  4. Tile and coping. Many owners replace waterline tile or coping at the same time, since the pool is already drained.
  5. Repairs found along the way. Cracks, fittings, lights or plumbing issues are best fixed before the new finish goes on.
  6. Access and timing. Tight access and peak season demand can affect scheduling and cost.

Is resurfacing worth it, or can I just patch it?

Small chips and isolated spots can often be patched. But when roughness, staining or delamination is widespread, patches rarely blend in or last. Waiting also tends to make prep more extensive, and more expensive. If the finish is near the end of its life, resurfacing usually costs less over time than repeated patching and extra chemicals.

How long does pool resurfacing take?

Most projects take about 1–2 weeks from drain to swim-ready, including prep, application, refilling and startup chemistry. Weather and the extent of repairs can extend that. Learn more on our pool resurfacing service page.

How to compare pool resurfacing quotes

  • Check the license. Pool work in Florida should be done by a state-licensed pool/spa contractor. Verify any license at MyFloridaLicense.com. Ours is CPC1459841.
  • Get the scope in writing. Prep method, finish brand and color, tile/coping, repairs and startup plan should all be listed.
  • Ask about startup. How the water is balanced and the surface is brushed in the first weeks affects how long the finish lasts.
  • Ask about warranties. Ask what workmanship and material warranties apply, and get them in writing.

Quick questions

Pool resurfacing cost FAQ

Standard white plaster (marcite) is usually the lowest-cost finish, at roughly $4,000–$8,000 for a typical Florida residential pool per 2026 guides. It also has the shortest typical lifespan, about 7–12 years.

If you plan to stay in the home a long time, often yes. Pebble finishes typically last 15–25 years compared with 7–12 for plaster, so the cost per year can be similar or better.

Not always. Waterline tile and coping are often quoted as add-ons. Since the pool is already drained, it's the most cost-effective time to replace them.
